Assessment of the World’s Health for Policymakers

I led the creation of a report summarizing the state of the world’s health. Working together with a graphic designer and a media expert, I provided an easy-to-understand overview of the complex studies that my scientist colleagues at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) published in The Lancet. This report has been cited by the Norwegian government, Harvard, and Devex.

Communicating global health threats to Munich Security Conference attendees

I created an infographic for a closed-door session at the Munich Security Conference on 21st-Century Global Threats to Health. I transformed a dense scientific report into a short overview of findings and policy recommendations. The director of IHME used the infographic as the main communication tool in the meeting, which stakeholders from leading international organizations, foundations, and think tanks attended. The infographic is not publicly available due to embargo restrictions but can be seen in the image taken during the meeting.

Measuring state health spending

I oversaw the creation of policy briefings for government health officials in 50 US states and Washington, DC. I used these briefings to secure meetings with government leaders in over 20 states. I also shared them directly with state health officials at the 2025 National Association of State Health Policymakers conference.

Policy impact partnership with the Council on Foreign Relations

I am a co-founding editor of Think Global Health, an initiative of The Council on Foreign Relations in collaboration with IHME. I oversee IHME’s contributions to the site, advising people from tenured faculty to entry-level researchers as they write pieces and participate in interviews. Policymakers from countries such as the US, Chile, and Norway have shared articles that we have written for the site, as well as leaders from international organizations including Gavi. Media outlets such as The Guardian, The Atlantic, and L’Express have cited our articles and interviews.

Tracking funding for global health

I wrote IHME’s annual report, Financing Global Health, with guidance from faculty members Dr. Angela Apeagyei and Professor Joseph Dieleman. The report is used by the world’s largest global health foundation. It has been covered by media outlets such as Politico, Newsweek, and Time.
